An
increasing number of people are choosing to use antimicrobial apparel
because of their superior qualitys compared to the other materials’
apparel: they are reducing the risk of infections created by fungi and the
unpleasant odor produced by bacteria.
As a response to this demand the market is offering a
continuously growing range of fibers and fabrics with antimicrobial
products which are used for various items such as casual wear, fashion,
and protective clothing.
Antimicrobial products started to be used by the mid 1990. It is
estimated that in Western Europe they will experience continuous growth of
15% a year, making this textile sector one of the fastest moving ones.
An important role is played by the technological researches and
developments which have helped the antimicrobial products be incorporated
in an increasing range of garments at no extra cost for the consumer.
The highest sales will be reached by antimicrobial products
that will offer the highest efficiency and as less harm as possible for
the environment.
In the US and Europe there already are strict regulations to
prevent manufacturers to make exagerated claims about what their
antimicrobial products can achieve. For manufacturers, observing these
regulations and compyling with them involves significant costs.
